M. Jean Van Dyke, 92, of Topsham, passed away on Nov. 23 at the Hill House in Bath.
She was born in Minneapolis, Minn. on May 15, 1915, the daughter of John and Jennie (Johnson) Wahlberg. She was a graduate of the University of Minnesota, receiving her degree in nursing.
She married Karl Van Dyke, Jr. in 1942 in Denver, Col. and later lived in Indiana, Oklahoma, Texas and New York before retiring in Maine in 1981.
She had a career in the airline industry where she was employed as a chief stewardess for American Airlines, started the stewardess training school for Continental Airlines, and ended her flying career as a stewardess with Northwest Airlines.
Jean was a dedicated housewife and mother. She was active in the Glen Head (New York) Gospel Meeting House and the Springhill Gospel Chapel in Westbrook.
Jean was predeceased by her beloved husband, Karl, and four sisters.
She is survived by her daughter, M. Kristen Johnson and husband Richard of New Hampshire; John S. Van Dyke and wife Nancy of Edgecomb, and James A. Van Dyke of Nobleboro; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Memorial service 3 p.m., Sun., Dec. 2 at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, Glidden St., Newcastle.
