Madelyn E. Miller Benner, 84, of Bristol, passed away peacefully April 9 at the home of her daughter, in Benton.
Madelyn was born June 24, 1925 in Warren, to Elden John Miller and Lulu Maude Mank Miller. She grew up in Waldoboro and went to Feylers Corner School for six years. After that she went to junior high and high school in Waldoboro, graduating in 1944. She drove her father’s truck to help him when he worked for the state. As a young girl she enjoyed sliding, skiing and skating.
On Sept. 19, 1946 she married Warren Harding Benner; they moved to Bristol where they raised their three daughters on a small farm. Madelyn was a member of the Methodist church and also the Seaside Grange for 50 years. She taught Sunday school and work at Ladies Aid, quilting and tacking quilts. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Leuigo Osier V.F.W. and Pocotanus. She worked at Sylvania and then Lipmans in Augusta for 16 years.
After 55 years of marriage, her husband Warren passed away on July 22, 2002.
Madelyn enjoyed eating out, her flowers, knitting and keeping everything she brought into the house.
She leaves behind eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and three daughters, Carol Anne Loy and husband Gary Loy of Liberty, N.C., Arlene Jennie McLaughlin and husband Paul McLaughlin of Cornville, and Karen Lou McLaughlin and husband Timothy McLaughlin of Benton.
Private service will be held for family and close friends.
