Margaret Chaney, 88, of Alna, passed away at her home on the Sheepscot River Oct. 26. She and her loving husband, Kenneth Chaney, made their home there since their marriage on Jan. 1, 1941.
Born in Whitefield on Oct. 7, 1922, the daughter of George S. and Margaret (Harrigan) Graffam, she was also predeceased by her siblings, George Graffam Jr., Ruth Roper, Robert Graffam, John Graffam, Miriam Humason, Paul Graffam, Mildred Hatch, Kathleen Hall and Kenneth Graffam.
She leaves her husband of 70 years, Kenneth P. Chaney; children, Dennis and Evelyn Chaney, Steven and Patricia Chaney, Nancy and Fred Hanna, Larry and Cyndy Chaney, and Michael and Laura Chaney; as well as 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Margaret was active with Kenneth in a variety of organizations including the Sheepscot Valley Grange, Garrison Hill Grange, Sheepscot Valley Church, Wiscasset Yacht Club, Wawenock Power Squadron and the Loud’s Island Church.
Memorial service 2 p.m., Sun., Oct. 31 at the Strong-Hancock Funeral Home, 612 Main St., Damariscotta, with the Rev. Robert Ives.
