Margaret “Peggy” Elizabeth Norton, 86, of Bath, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Sept. 23. Born in Bristol on June 2, 1924, Margaret was the daughter of Stephen and Florence (Weeks) Prentice. She attended Bristol area schools.
Margaret loved to dance, and particularly enjoyed dancing at the Lakehurst Dance Hall in Damariscotta, where she met her soul mate Everett W. Norton and on Aug. 9, 1942 they were married.
She worked for over 20 years as a buyer for Senters Department Store, in Brunswick, in the cosmetic and jewelry department. She also worked for Adams Clothing for a short time and then for many years for the InTown Shop, where she also did alterations, until retiring in 2006.
Margaret was an avid sports fan, having three grandsons that played for Morse High School; she made sure to be at every game that she could attend. She was a cat lover, companions “Sam” and “Ellie May” will be forever in our hearts. She had a talent for sewing and for many years tailored clothing as a part time job. Margaret also enjoyed gardening and square dancing and had a passion for shopping and did it with enthusiasm, always looking for a bargain price on materials to make her crafts. She was on the Yankee Lanes Bowling League for many years with her husband, and was a member of the Winter Street Congregational Church that later became UCC Church.
Margaret was always willing to help others as she did volunteer work for Bath Memorial Hospital in the Coffee Shop.
She is predeceased by her husband in 2005; daughter, Margaret E. Norton; and brothers, Kenneth and Keith Prentice.
She is survived by children, son Stephen Norton and wife Dianne of Freeport and daughter Barbara Walker and husband Ken of Bath; grandsons, Cullen Walker and wife Christine, Chad Walker and wife Krista and Casey Walker and companion Katie Rouillard, all of Bath; great-granddaughters, Kaylee and Gabrielle Walker; sister, Mary Ella Prior of Bristol; brother; Stephen Prentice of Round Pond; and several nieces and nephews.
