Marion A. “Babe” Reed, 81, a longtime family farm member and resident of Waldoboro, died Oct. 24 at her residence after a lengthy period of failing health.
Babe was born Aug. 21, 1930, in Rockland, the daughter of Lewville J and Mildred Robinson Pottle, and is a graduate of Rockland High School, class of 1950.
Soon after graduating, she married Howard C. Reed, and they moved to their farm on the Winslow Mills Rd. While operating the family farm, she was also employed by the Medomak canning factory in Waldoboro.
Babe was a member of the Word of Life Church, loved to spend time with her family, and loved her pets, especially her dog Bo.
She was known for her sayings, including “it’s a woman’s right to change her mind” and “if there’s a dance, Marion knew about it.”
She is predeceased by husband, Howard C. Reed; grandson, Wesley Reed; and brother, Paul Pottle.
Survivors include son, Ronald H. Reed and wife Sue; grandchildren, Howard Reed, Travis Reed and wife Sally, and Katie Reed; great grandchildren, Hayden Reed, Desiree Reed, Kaylee Reed, and Alden Reed, all of Waldoboro; brother, Lewville Pottle Jr. and wife Jill of Warren; and sisters-in-law, Ruth Benner of Rockland, and Violet Benner of California.
At Babe’s request, following cremation, her Celebration of Life service will be held 12 noon, Sat., Oct. 29 at the Word of Life Church, 41 Old Route 1, Waldoboro, with Pastor Tom Rawley officiating.
