Marjorie Jean Moore Winslow, Marj to her friends, 86, a longtime resident of Southport, passed away the evening of Dec. 27 at her residence after a period of failing health.
Marj was born July 10, 1925 in Westmount, Quebec, the daughter of Vaughan Hallam and Marguerite Alice Wiggin Moore, and is a 1948 graduate of McGill University with a B.S. in Business. She soon opened her own dress shop, called the Tall Shop, in Montreal.
Spending her summers in the Boothbay area, she and a friend would board the Argo in Ocean Point, and soon the captain, Eliot Winslow asked her to be a hostess on board. From there the relationship blossomed, and they were married in Montreal in 1960.
Settling into the Boothbay area, they owned and operated the Argo Excursions, Sheepscot Pilots and Robinson’s Wharf on Southport.
Active in the community, she was a member of Meals on Wheels, St. Andrews Hospital Auxiliary and the Southport Mothers Club.
Marj enjoyed playing golf, skiing, playing bridge, tending her garden, and most of all loved to host friends at her home in Love’s Cove on Southport.
Marj is predeceased by husband, C. Eliot Winslow, who died in 2006.
She is survived by son, Charles David Winslow of Falmouth; loving caregivers; and many dear friends.
Celebration of her life 11 a.m., Sat., Dec. 31 at the Southport United Methodist Church.
