Marjorie (Marge) Hall Gordon, of Warren, died Nov. 1 at the Knox Center for Long Term Care in Rockland after a battle with Alzheimer’s.
Born in Damariscotta on Dec. 2, 1924, she was the daughter of Phillip Hall and Eva (Gamage) Hall. She graduated from Lincoln Academy, class of 1942. Following high school Marge worked as a time keeper for Bath Iron Works, where she fell more than 20 feet and was dubbed “The Miracle Girl” by the local newspaper, after falling she walked herself to the waiting ambulance. Anyone who knew Marge wouldn’t have been surprised by that, she was known to be very independent.
Later, she married Henry Ilves of Waldoboro, she and Hank had three children, Bruce, Karen, and Michael. Before moving to Warren, Marge waitressed at Moody’s Diner, later she owned/operated the restaurant on “the corner” in Warren. There she met her second husband, Winfield Gordon and they made their home in Warren. They had a daughter, Sandra who resides in Warren with her husband, Scott Anderson. They also shared two children from Winfield’s first marriage; Ronald and Darlene.
After the “corner” restaurant Marge went to work for Peter Moody at Dave’s Restaurant in Thomaston. She worked there for 27 years before retiring in 1993. After retiring Marge enjoyed being a Florida snowbird and spent her winters in Zephyrhills, Fla. Her summers were spent at Searsport Shores Campground and later at Sandy Shores in Warren. Marge loved to camp, but mostly loved to socialize, play bingo, and make friends.
Marge was predeceased by her first husband, Henry Ilves, her second husband Winfield Gordon, and her step-son, Ronald Gordon.
She is survived by her children, Bruce Ilves and wife Candice, Karen (Ilves) Mailhot and husband Andre, all of California, and Michael Ilves of Warren; granddaughters, Kelly Bisbee-Sabien and husband Nelson of Warren, and Sarah Hardy of Los Angeles, Cal.; three great-grandchildren, Daniel Bisbee, Nichole Sabien, and Ashley Sabien, all of Maine; siblings, Phyllis Collamore of Round Pond, Verna Ames of Rockland, June Martin of Vinalhaven, and James Thompson of Rockland; and uncle, Howard (Punk) Gamage and wife Marge of New Harbor.
Visiting hours 10-12 p.m., Sat., Nov. 8 with a memorial service immediately following at Hall Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 949 Main St., Waldoboro.
