Martha Elizabeth MacIlvaine, 61, of Waldoboro, died March 18 in Portland. She was born in Riverside, Cal. and attended Stanford University where she received both BA and MBA degrees. She was a long-time employee of the Center for Naval Analysis in Alexandria, Va., telecommuting from her home in Maine. Martha moved to Maine during the 1990s and developed a wide circle of friends in the Waldoboro and Friendship area. She had a large range of interests included basketry, wood working, antique collecting, performing with the Midcoast Community Chorus, and her beautiful dog, Alice.
Martha was an unofficial member of the Maine visitor’s bureau, hosting all family visits with culinary and sightseeing adventures up and down the mid-coast. She particularly delighted in entertaining her grand-nieces and nephews with craft projects and nature walks along the shore. One of the highlights of her life was her annual trek to Topsail Island in North Carolina to join family and lifelong friends.
Martha will be remembered by all who knew her for her enthusiasm for life, her garden and her creativity. She enjoyed spending hours searching for the perfect gift for all of her family and friends. She was the family historian, and the collector of family mementos, photographs and traditions. She was the one who knew the current goings on of all the extended family. She’ll also be remembered as an auction junky, avid reader and sports fan.
Memorial gifts may be made to the Lobster Conservancy, P.O. Box 235, Friendship, ME 04547; or to Midcoast Community Chorus, P.O. Box 192, Rockport, ME 04856.
