Mary Ann Minkle, 78, of Wiscasset, passed quietly in the early hours of May 16 at the Greenwood Center in Sanford, having been ill for several weeks. Her family is deeply grateful for the kindness and compassion of the people who helped care for her there and at Parkview Hospital in Brunswick.
Born in Needham, Mass. on Oct. 5, 1928, she was the eldest daughter of Carl and Margaret Parker.
She graduated from Needham High School, class of 1946.
On March 18, 1950, she married Kenneth E. Minkle and together they raised their family in Needham, Mass.
In 1981, they retired to Wiscasset, where they enjoyed 25 years of “life in the slow lane.” Mrs. Minkle got to know her new hometown when she volunteered for Meals on Wheels, and worked for several years as a senior services coordinator in the Wiscasset area.
Mary Ann enjoyed the Midcoast region and its people, lunch at Sarah’s, coffee with the women of the Miss Wiscasset, a quick trip to Renys or Yellowfront, and visits with Tina, Tim and the kids. She also delighted in spending time with her family, especially her great grandchildren, Walt and Ryleigh.
She was widowed in 2005.
Mrs. Minkle is survived by her children, Glenda and husband Randy Metcalf of West Baldwin, Brad and wife Corine of Franklin, Mass., and Vivian of Waltham, Mass.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Jean Curtis and Priscilla Duval; and brother, Carl Parker. She will be missed by many nieces, nephews, dear friends, and neighbors.
Burial will take place at the Maine Veterans’ Cemetery in Augusta later in the spring.
Arrangements are entrusted to Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main St., Springvale.
