Mary E. Libby, 97, of Bath, died peacefully May 25 at HillHouse Assisted Living.
Mary grew up in East Boothbay, and graduated as salutatorian from Boothbay Harbor High School in 1933. She also graduated from Gorham Normal School in 1933, and from the University of Maine, Orono, in 1963.
She was a retired elementary school teacher, having taught in the Boothbay region early in her career and as a third grade teacher at the Hawthorne School in Brunswick for a total of 25 years.
She was a member of the Berean Baptist Church, the National Education Association, the Maine Education Association, the local Retired Teachers’ Association and a past member of the Brunswick Golf Club.
She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond B. Libby in October of 1976.
Surviving are two daughters, Sarah Jensen and husband Tom of Damariscotta, and Jane Littlefield and husband Bill of Topsham; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Memorial service 11 a.m., Sat., June 13 at the Berean Baptist Church, with the Rev. Mark Rockwood officiating. Burial was at the Riverside Cemetery in Brunswick.
