MARY EMMA LADD Mary Emma Ladd, 93, passed away April 17 at her home in Brunswick. Mary was born July 2, 1912, in North Lubec, the daughter of Charles and Adelaide Whitten Small. Growing up in the Rockland area, Mary was a graduate of Rockland High School, Class of 1930. She met and married the love of her life, E. Clifford Ladd and they were married in a small church in New York City in 1936. They made their home there for the next five years before his job took them to Cincinnati where both of their children were born. In 1950 they relocated to Melrose, Mass., where Cliff worked for several years before returning to Maine to live in the Camden-Rockland area. Upon returning to Maine, Cliff joined the family business W.C. Ladd Insurance until retiring in the mid ‘70’s. After retiring they spent their time in Rockland and winters in Florida until 1997. In 1997 they moved to Thornton Oaks in Brunswick to spend the rest of their time. Her husband and family said that Mary was their foundation, support and base from which they built successful lives. Mary will be remembered as a woman who was strong in both family and business and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. She was a long time member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Rockland and St. Paul’s Church in Brunswick where she spent many long hours participating in charitable events. She enjoyed weaving, making hand-made Christmas ornaments, and knitting to give gifts to her family and friends and she loved spending time with her family. She is predeceased by her loving husband, E. Clifford Ladd, with whom she had gone since age 16 for 72 years and to whom she had been married for 64 years; and by son, Walter C. Ladd, 2004. Survivors include daughter, Mary Harriet Ladd of Brooklyn, N.Y.; grandchildren, Michael C.
