MaryLou Halleran Merritt, of Damariscotta, returned to her Lord on Oct. 6 after a stay at Miles Memorial Medical Center in Damariscotta.
She had multiple health challenges that contributed to her being summoned to her final home. She faced these challenges with grace, dignity and style.
She helped raise her family in Falmouth, and was very active in her local community, including all schools and local sports. She, and we are especially proud of her membership was one of the first female, full-fledged Lions to be voted into the Falmouth Lion’s Club organization.
She was the eternal mother with open arms; she nurtured and nursed all who crossed her path. Her gift of song with her fine voice was welcomed and appreciated by all who loved beautiful music.
One of eight children, she attempted to repeat her mother’s experience, but stopped at seven herself. She is understandably missed by her beloved husband Dudley; children, Jennifer, Dudley, Susan Fusillo, Geoffrey, Pamela, Martin, and Karin Solomon and their respective partners; grandchildren, including Virginia Shannon and Robert Fusillo; and all the rest of her family and chosen family.
She was truly a compassionate, unique, non-judgmental, and loving person.
Musical celebration of her life 3-7 p.m., Sat., Oct. 13 at Southern Maine Community College’s Culinary Dining Room, 2 Fort Rd., South Portland; for directions call 1-877-282-2182.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The MaryLou H. Merritt Foundation to facilitate alternative medical care, P.O. Box 1003, Waldoboro, ME 04572.
Arrangements are entrusted to Funeral Alternatives LLC, Yarmouth.
