Maureen Kay Hynes, of Edgecomb, peacefully died at home on the morning of Feb. 18 after a brief illness, surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and devoted husband of 45 years, Michael Hynes.
After leaving her childhood home of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Maureen’s love of family and travel found her living in Brunswick; Hanover, Mass.; Clifton, Va.; Beaufort, S.C., and finally back to Maine, the place where she truly felt at home. She loved taking care of her family, the challenge of decorating a new house, and her professional career as a dental assistant.
Maureen was a loving wife, incredible mother, and enchanting Cha Cha to her grandchildren. She was quick to smile and laugh, forever compassionate and loyal, and a cherished friend. All who had the pleasure to know her will dearly miss Maureen.
Her parents Joseph and Myrna Hughes, and sister, Cynthia Smith preceded her in death.
Maureen is survived by daughter, Shannon Laubenstein, husband Chuck, and children Tyler and Reilly; son, Eric Hynes, wife Christine Mahoney, and children Rita and Molly; son, Casey Hynes and wife Amber; daughter, Elizabeth Hynes; beloved granddogs; sister, Pat Rigatuso and husband Joe; brother-in-law, Jeri Smith; and five nieces and nephews.
Please join her family at a mass celebrating Maureen’s life at 11 a.m., Sat., May 9 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Newcastle.
In lieu of flowers, Maureen would wish that interested parties donate in her name to Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, PO Box 234,
