
Michael A. Baron, 73, of Newcastle, passed away in the early morning hours of Sept. 17, at the Sussman House in Rockport, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Gardiner on Nov. 7, 1942, he was the son of George and Sylvia (Beckwith) Baron.
Michael attended local schools including Lincoln Academy, and then went on to work construction for many years with both Maine Yankee and Seabrook in New Hampshire. He later went to work for Bath Iron Works, where he worked for over 25 years and later retired.
He enjoyed being outdoors, observing wildlife, feeding birds, as well as both deer and duck hunting, with his nephew, Jack. He enjoyed playing blackjack, as well as driving his 1978 Z28 Camaro.
Besides his parents, Michael was predeceased by brothers, George Baron, Jack Baron, Ernie Baron, and Devon Baron; nephew, Jack Baron; and niece, Pam Philbrook.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Rovena Baron; daughters, Michelle Coyer and significant other, John Kindlimann, and Mickie Chadwick and significant other, Steve McDowell; grandsons, Nick Bryant and significant other Kaitlin Kaler, Nathan Bryant and wife Lori, Staff Sergeant Ben Coyer, and Hunter White; great-grandsons, Matthew Schiffer-Bryant and Chayse Bryant; sisters, Sheila Miller and husband Rex, and Tami Bergner and husband David; sisters-in-law, Rhonda Hanna and husband Stewart, Janet Baron, Elaine Baron and Dawn Baron; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Michael’s life, and time to visit with the family, will be held from 5-7 p.m., Thurs., Sept. 22 at the Strong-Hancock Funeral Home, 612 Main St., Damariscotta. He will be laid to rest privately at the Hillside Cemetery in Damariscotta.
