Michael A. Stolte, 95, of South Amboy, N.J., passed away on Sept. 6 at the Reformed Church Home in Old Bridge, N.J. Born in South Amboy, he was the son of the late John and Catherine Stolte, and lived there all of his life.
Before his retirement, he was employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad in New Jersey. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, and was a member of St. Mary’s R.C. Church, in South Amboy. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Bernadette Council 8478, in Parlin, N.J., and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4699 in Sayreville, N.J.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, PFC Vernon Stolte, and John Stolte.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Ethel May Chapman Stolte; sons and daughters-in-law, Matthew and Barbara Stolte of Monroe, N.J., and Michael Jr. and Laura Stolte of Lawrenceburg, Tenn.; daughter and son-in-law, Mildred and Ronald Edwards of Nokesville, Va.; sisters, June O’Leary and Florence McCarthy of South Amboy, N.J.; brothers, Armand Stolte of Milltown, N.J., and Bobby Tibbets of Bristol Mills; as well as seven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
A time of visitation will be held from 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., Thurs., Sept. 11 at the Strong-Hancock Funeral Home, 612 Main St., Damariscotta. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m., also on Thurs., Sept. 11 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Newcastle. He will be laid to rest in the Bristol Mills Cemetery following the service.
