Michael (Mikey) George Simmons, 47, of Friendship, died Sept. 6 at his home following a brief illness, surrounded by his family and companion, Diane Allen.
Born in Damariscotta on May 12, 1963, he was the son of Mary Amelia Achorn Simmons and Raymond Leroy Burns Jr.
He attended area schools, but left in his early teens to go lobster fishing with his brother. He enjoyed being on the water as well as being around the water. He also enjoyed rifle, bow and musket hunting, bowling, playing cards, four wheeling, NASCAR racing and spending time with the grandchildren. Family was everything to Mikey. He enjoyed cookouts with family and friends. He was well known for the sayings “Like I said” and “Magine.” He loved to have big bon fires at the shore where we would gather until late in the night.
He was a member of the Friendship Fire Department.
He was predeceased by his parents and sisters, Donna Turner and Evelyn Dyer.
He is survived by his brother, Virgil Simmons and wife Susan of Friendship; sisters, Patricia Havener and husband Lewis of Friendship, Diana Benner and husband Wayne of Friendship; Brenda Willey of Waldoboro, Sandra Mank of Waldoboro, Pamela Simmons and companion Carroll Willey of Waldoboro, and Andrea Bragg and husband William of Waldoboro; companion, Diane Allen of Friendship; Diane’s children, Travis and Jessie Guptill of Waldoboro; her grandchildren, Sammi and Abbi Guptill of Appleton; and several nieces and nephews and many special friends.
Visiting hours 6-8 p.m., Fri., Sept. 10 at Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro. Celebration of life 1 p.m., Sat., Sept. 11 at the Hall Funeral Home. Interment will be held at the Harbor Cemetery in Friendship with a reception to follow at the home of Virgil Simmons in East Friendship.
