Mirle Amory Kellett, MD, 88, of York Harbor, formerly of Wellesley, Mass., died June 17 peacefully at his home surrounded by his family, after a brief battle with cancer. He was born Sept. 24, 1919 in Methuen, Mass., the second son of John George and Mabel Turner Kellett and was predeceased by his only sibling John Heyworth Kellett.
Mirle was a 1937 graduate of Searles High School in Methuen, Mass. and graduated from Norwich University in 1941, commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant in the Army Reserve. Further education at McGill University School of Medicine was followed by a Residency in Radiology at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital. He joined the staff of the New England Deaconess Hospital, Boston, Mass., where he became the Chief of the Department and retired in 1975 in order to return to his twin passions, practicing clinical radiology and living in his beloved southern Maine. For the next 16 years he practiced at the Henrietta B. Goodall and the York hospitals. In retirement he was able to further develop his enjoyment of gardening, as well as pursue his life long love of learning. One of his great joys was sharing his special home on the rocky coast with family and friends.
Dr. Kellett was predeceased by his two loving wives; Virginia Tatham Kellett in 1978, and Virginia Williams Kellett in 1998; two sons and their families, Mirle A. Kellett, Jr. MD, wife Wendy of Yarmouth, and daughter Jessica, and Jeff and Liz Kellett of Walpole and children Heather and Bob; four stepchildren and their families, Bruce and Jean Williams of Cary, N.C., Jennifer and David Pickering of Harpswell, and sons Brooks and Grant, Laura and Robert Sullivan of Chelmsford, Mass. and sons Bobby and Corey, and Patience Williams-Whang and Brian Whang M.D. of New Haven, Conn.
