Nathanael Eugene Spencer, 22, of Bristol, passed away unexpectedly Sept. 1 in New Harbor. The son of Nancy Furman Spencer and Kevin Eugene Spencer, Nate was born in Naples, Italy April 19, 1986. Nate came to the U.S. at 11 months old and lived the majority of his life in Maine. In June of this year, Nate proudly earned his G.E.D. through School Union #74.
At the time of his passing, Nate had been working as a land surveyor with his Uncle Bob Furman of Waldoboro, a job he loved, since 2003. He also had worked over the years as a sternman on a lobster boat, briefly as an electrician apprentice, in carpentry, sea urchins and most recently was working a second job at the Sea Gull Restaurant.
Nate had a love of the outdoors, enjoying many sports, including swimming, golf and disc golf, skiing and snowboarding, baseball, basketball and boating. He also loved chess, cribbage, darts, pool, and cooking and had a diverse taste in music.
Nate is survived by his mother of Bristol; his father of Fountaintown, Ind.; maternal grandmother, Mrs. Robert (Louise) Furman of Pemaquid; paternal grandmother, Beverly of Indiana; two sisters, Monica and Kayla Spencer; special aunt Tammy and her family; special uncle Bob Furman and wife Debby of Waldoboro; cousins, Andrew and Matthew Furman and a large group of friends both young and old.
Nate will be laid to rest, with a graveside service, 10 a.m., Sun., Sept. 14, at the New Harbor Cemetery, with Pastor Richard Hood officiating.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Strong Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 612 Main St., Damariscotta.
