Odway Simmons, 79, of Nobleboro, passed away in the early morning hours of Oct. 14, exactly two weeks after his wife, Elaine Simmons, passed away. Born on March 3, 1938 in Waldoboro, he was the son of Randall and Frances (Winchenbach) Simmons.
Odway grew up in Nobleboro and attended local schools, graduating from Lincoln Academy. He made his way to Kansas City for one year of college, but returned to his beloved Maine, and on Dec. 31, 1962, he married Elaine Teele.
Odway was a devoted member of Faith Baptist Church in Newcastle, and was a true man of God. He worked at Portland Glass for many years, but when he wasn’t working there, he was usually found working at his home, cutting firewood and in the general upkeep of their home in Nobleboro.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife, Elaine Simmons, on Sept. 30.
He is survived by daughter, Mecca Sue Simmons of Burnham; son, Henry Beston Simmons of Nobleboro; sisters, Cheryl Boyd of Nobleboro, and Catherine Rolerson of Jefferson; and beloved dog, Ranger.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for a joint service to celebrate the lives of Odway and Elaine at 1 p.m., Sun., Oct. 22 at the Faith Baptist Church in Newcastle, with the Pastor David O’Donnell officiating.
