Orman D. Skillin, 84, of Whitefield, died Oct. 3 at Hillhouse Assisted Living in Bath. He was born Jan. 21, 1928 in Woolwich to Maurice and Vera Bearce Skillin.
He grew up in Woolwich and attended Morse High School. He briefly worked at Bath Iron Works before joining the Merchant Marine. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and later served with the Merchant Marine again. He worked at B.I.W. from 1955 to 1991 in the engineering department.
He enjoyed hunting, canoeing, mountain climbing, and hiking. He lived in Woolwich until 1998 when he moved to Whitefield.
He was predeceased by sisters, Dorothea Rice and Gertrude Brawn; brothers, Erwin Skillin and Elwin Skillin; and uncles, Merton Bearce and Kenneth Bearce.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Barbara Skillin of Whitefield; son, Daniel Skillin of Woolwich; daughters, Debra Skillin of Topsham and Bonnie Murray and husband Michael of Wiscasset; brother, Myron Skillin and wife Alma of Dresden; sister, Grace Smith of Woolwich; grandchildren, Brandon Skillin and fiancée Sheri, Alicia Skillin and husband Justin Tribbet, Nathan Murray and wife Jen, James Murray and Ryan Murray; and great-grandchildren, Owen and Khloe Murray.
A celebration of Orman’s life will be held at later date. Burial will be in the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta.
