Patricia E. Townsend, 72, of Newcastle and New Harbor, passed away July 27 at her home in New Harbor, after suffering a long illness.
She was born in Washington, D.C. on Nov. 24, 1934, to Robert & Dorothy Townsend.
She grew up and was educated in Washington, D.C. During her early twenties, she spent several years in Europe before returning to join her family in their new home in Newcastle.
Patricia made her home in Newcastle and New Harbor over the past 48 years. She was an excellent tennis player, and avid boater, and for many years was easily recognized as the driver of British MG sports cars and an antique jeep pickup. She was known as an unusually independent woman.
Patricia is survived by her husband, Hugh Williams; nieces, Susan Townsend Phinney, Lisa Huguenot and Claire Townsend Vander Valk; and grandnephews, Matthew Phinney and Jackson Huguenot.
She will be laid to rest with a private ceremony at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Newcastle. A memorial service will also be announced in the fall.
