Patricia “Patti” Garber passed away unexpectedly Feb. 28.
She was born Jan. 19, 1948 in Chicago, and grew up in its northern suburbs. After spending nine years outside New York City, she and her family settled in Maine in 1982. In all three states she practiced what she loved, elementary education. Her teaching was sidelined for a period of time after the birth of her son, Paul Michael.
She resumed her teaching career at Miller School in Waldoboro from which she retired after 27 years. Patti was a gifted, caring person and born teacher. Her infectious and bubbly personality affected all who knew her, leaving lifelong impressions on her students. Many of whom, years later, expressed the positive impact she had upon them. “You were my favorite teacher” often was their greeting.
She and her husband, Paul, were married in 1970, having dated since high school. In retirement, Patti maintained her love of children and teaching through substituting. Retirement afforded more time for travel and she hoped to visit all the national parks and, of course, vacationing at her favorite places, the warm beaches of Florida and the Caribbean, especially Punta Cana.
She leaves behind her loving husband, Paul; son, Paul Michael; and her many wonderful lifelong friends.
A celebration of life service is planned for 11 a.m., Sat., March 24 at the 1812 Farm in Bristol.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Lincoln County Animal Shelter, PO Box 7, Edgecomb, ME 04556.
