Mr. Paul Bernard Geddry Sr., 67, of Boothbay Harbor, passed away peacefully at Maine Medical Center in Portland on Oct. 4 with his beloved wife Cynthia by his side.
Born on April 2, 1943 in Boston, Mass., Mr. Geddry was the son of the late Bernard and Mildred Sheehan Geddry.
Paul graduated from Boston Latin High School, Franklin Institute and Northeastern University, class of 1977. An active supporter of the Engineering Program at Northeastern, he has established and funded a scholarship for engineering students at the school.
He was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Army, he was attached to the 1st Infantry Division (Big Red One) Artillery Battalion, ultimately serving two tours of duty in Vietnam from 1965 to 1968, obtaining the rank of sergeant at his discharge.
Paul was employed by New England Telephone as an engineer and retired from Verizon in 2002 after 32 years of service.
Active in many organizations, he was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Ashland, Mass., Post # 2331, serving as past commander of that post, Elks Post #1124 of Norwood, Mass., life member of the Society of the First Infantry Division, 2/33rd FA, Boothbay Region American Legion Post #36, and life member of Vietnam Veterans of America. Paul was a passionate supporter of the building and the maintaining of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund (The Wall). His greatest honor was reading the names of his fallen comrades, including that of his dear friend, Ernest E. Simons, during the 25th anniversary of the rededication of The Wall.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Cynthia; Paul’s children, Paul B. Geddry Jr. and wife Lee Ann of North Attleboro, Mass. and daughter, Nicole Leigh Geddry of Norwood, Mass.; first wife, Joan Geddry of Norwood, Mass.; brother, Bernard Geddry of Arizona; and Paul’s grandchildren, Samantha Geddry and Nina Tinsley of North Attleboro, Mass.; and sisters-in-law, Niki Saltzer and Elaine Athans, both of Naples, Fla.
Visiting hours 6-8 p.m., Fri., Oct. 8 at the Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home, 975 Wiscasset Rd., Boothbay. Mass of Christian burial 10 a.m., Sat., Oct. 9 at Our Lady Queen of Peace, Boothbay Harbor. Interment, with military honors, will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Boothbay.
