Paul Herman Huber Jr., 84, of Jefferson, passed away after a brief illness on Oct. 1 at Maine Medical Center in Portland. He was born on June 30, 1931 in Rockland, the son of Paul H. Huber Sr. and Elinor Cain Huber.
Paul grew up in Wiscasset and attended Wiscasset schools. In his younger years, he worked at various jobs including Yankee Wholesale, Gardiner Flood, and Prock Marine.
He moved to Jefferson after he married Jean Ogilvie in 1960. Paul was best known in the community for driving the Jefferson school bus for over 40 years, and was a reserve deputy for the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office. During this time he also owned and operated Huber’s Marine, where he worked on outboard motors and small engines. He was also the property manager for various cottages on Damariscotta Lake.
Paul worked up to the time of his death at Brooks Farm and Marine in Jefferson. He also remained as a caretaker for several cottages on Damariscotta Lake. Paul was a lifelong member of the Whitefield Lions Club, Riverside Masonic Lodge 179, Lakeview Chapter OES and the Jefferson Fire Department.
Paul is predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Jean Huber; brothers, Gordon Huber and Ross Huber.
He is survived by his son, Paul H. Huber II and wife Jill of Jefferson; daughters, Catherine H. Moore and husband Matthew of Jefferson, and Marjorie Greenleaf and husband Thomas of Jefferson; grandchildren, Emily and Nicholas Huber, and Andrew and Jason Greenleaf, all of Jefferson; sister, Frances Harris and husband James of Raleigh, N.C.; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends are welcome to join the family for a time of visitation from 6-8 p.m., Fri., Oct. 16 at Hall’s of Waldoboro, 949 Main St., Waldoboro. A service to celebrate Paul’s life will be held 10 a.m., Sat., Oct. 17 at the First Baptist Church in Jefferson. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery in Jefferson.
