Philip Wyman Reeves, known to his family as “Paps,” passed away unexpectedly on the afternoon of May 4 in Damariscotta.
He was born in Chamberlain on Nov. 12, 1932, to Samuel and Mildred (Tarr) Reeves; he was the youngest of five children.
He attended and graduated from Bristol High School.
On Feb. 16, 1955, he married Mary Carol Reilly. After they married, together they went to Virginia so he could finish his time with the U.S. Army. Their oldest daughter, Kathleen, was born while they were in Virginia.
After their time in Virginia, they moved to Florida in the late 1950’s where Philip went to work for Pan American.
In 1969, Philip and his family moved back to New Harbor, where he purchased the “Evening Star” and returned to commercial fishing.
In 1970, they moved into their new home on Pemaquid Trail. Within the next few years the family grew to include two new daughters, Kristin and Erin.
He was an avid Red Sox fan and a fixture on the shore of New Harbor.
He was predeceased by his wife, Mary, in 1994.
Survivors include three daughters, Kathleen Reny and husband John of Round Pond, Maj. Kristin Carlson and husband Col. Ken Carlson of San Antonio, Tex., and Erin Reeves and Chad McKernan of New Harbor; sister, Thelma; brother, Floyd; grandchildren, Faustine, Collette, Brett, Collin, and Reilly; and his dog, Chewy, and Mike the cat.
Visiting hours 5-7 p.m., Mon., May 7 at Strong Funeral Home.
Funeral 11 a.m., Tues., May 8 at the funeral home with the Rev. Ernie Farrar officiating; and immediately following the funeral, he will be laid to rest with his wife in the New Harbor Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bristol Fire and Rescue, 104 Southside Rd., New Harbor, ME 04554. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
