Phillip Edward Marcille III, 70, of Damariscotta, passed away peacefully in the home that he built on Lake Pemaquid in the loving arms of his wife Nancy “Munchkin” and surrounded by family on April 10 after a long and courageous battle.
Phil was a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and a friend to all. He never walked away from anyone in need. He faced multiple medical illnesses and challenges and never gave up his sense of humor and ‘can do’ attitude. Phil always said the only disability was a bad attitude and “if you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re probably right!”
Phil was a carpenter and craftsman who loved the smell and feel of wood. He was the owner of Pine Cove Builders, Inc. where he specialized in remodeling excellence and meeting the challenge of making visions become a reality.
Phillip lived his life full of wonder and awe and loved sharing that in ardent and endless storytelling with all. Phil was always on the go, immersed in a project or problem solving with friends and family. He lovingly acquired the reputation in the family that “Grampa can fix anything” – and he could, from a broken car to a broken heart, he was always there for whoever needed him – sharing his wisdom and skills with unconditional love.
Phil lived every day to the fullest – experiencing every moment. He refused to ever grow up and always was involved in devilish pranks accompanied by his infectious laugh that never grew old. He was a proud American and believer in the spirit of hard work and independence. He was country long before being country was cool. He was an avid outdoorsman and respected and loved nature, the smell of the pine forest, and both deep-sea fishing and freshwater fishing. He was a collector of antiques and firearms and a member of the NRA. He loved camping and most of all driving the “Big Rig RV” anywhere and everywhere, from Florida to Marden’s parking lot!
Phil’s greatest joy in life was his family whom he loved passionately and unconditionally. He was proud and committed to each individually and collectively, and shared their stories and successes freely with all he met.
Phil was predeceased by his parents, Phillip Edward Marcille II and Josephine (Fiorella) Marcille.
He was a loving, passionate and devoted husband to Nancy “Munchkin” Marcille; an unconditionally loving father to Barbi and husband Brian Coyne of Yulee, Fla., William Marcille and fiancée Christine O’Dell of Southbury, Conn., Christina and husband John Parsons of Jefferson, Brian Worthing and wife Jill Cohen of Chula Vista, Cal., and Tara Worthing and fiancé Joe Winchenbach of New Harbor; spoiled, furry, four-legged children who never left home – Yogi and Miss Dee; adoring grandfather to Scott and wife Kathleen Dykhuis of Yulee, Fla., Jennifer and husband Jordan Peebles of Savannah, Ga., Adriana Worthing of Damariscotta, Britany Chaney of Jefferson, Sean King of Jefferson, Justice Kennedy of New Harbor, Jacob and Noah Worthing of Hainesville, Ill., and Ella Worthing of Chula Vista, Cal.; loving great-grandfather to Roslynn and Reagan Dykhuis of Yulee, Fla.; brother to Donald and wife Linda of Westminter, Vt., Sue Doering of Southbury, Conn., Tom of Damariscotta, and Leisa and husband Todd Munce of Melbourne, Fla.; brother-in-law to Carol and Kenneth Shugrue of Wallingford, Conn.; and many well-loved nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., followed by a celebration of Phillip’s life on Sat., April 19, both at Camp Kieve in the dining hall at 42 Kieve Rd. in Nobleboro. All are invited. At Phil’s request, casual attire and comfortable walking shoes are appropriate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Miles & St. Andrews Home Health & Hospice, c/o Development Office, 35 Miles St., Damariscotta, ME 04543, or Elder Power of Maine, 277 Main St., Damariscotta, ME 04543; both of which, through their love and support, made it possible for Phil to remain home and close to all he loved in his final journey.
