Phyllis M. Orne, 82 of Rockland died peacefully surrounded by her family on April 23. The daughter of Astor and Gertha Prior Miller, she was born on Jan. 19, 1924, and raised in Waldoboro. After graduating from Waldoboro High School in 1942, Phyllis was employed at the Depositors Trust Company and the Paragon Button Factory in Waldoboro. Phyllis was a very kind and generous person. She enjoyed striking up conversations about Waldoboro and its history with people and in the end, every conversation followed with "isn’t it a small world." Two of her greatest treasures in her life were her family and friends. She often looked forward to Christmas and the time she could spend with them all. Phyllis’ hobbies over the years were crocheting, knitting, turning plastic canvas into her little works of art. She loved bingo, and in her earlier years enjoyed her time as a seasonal camper where she met many of her lifelong friends. Phyllis was predeceased by her parents, Astor and Gertha Miller and an infant grandson, Sydney Austin Achorn. Survivors include three sons, Robert Achorn and wife Linda of Islesboro, Gary Orne and wife Pam of Union, and Craig Orne and long-time companion Annette Bissell of Belfast; step daughter, Patricia Arrington and husband John of Denton, Tex.; three grandchildren, Kimberly Achorn and companion Mike Opdyke of S. Thomaston, Amanda Sylvester and husband Warren of Owls Head, and Shannon Eaton and husband Guy of Appleton; and two great grandchildren, Rebecca Camber of Camden and Haylee Sylvester of Owls Head.
