Ralph Winchenbach Jr., 73, of Waldoboro, passed away peacefully Sept. 30 at his home. He was born July 25, 1944 in Damariscotta to Ralph Winchenbach and Beatrice Genthner Winchenbach. He grew up in Waldoboro and attended local schools.
He began working as a fisherman, and he also dredged for clams in Maryland. Ralph met Jackie Taylor when he was 21. They got married and moved to New Bedford, Mass. He began scalloping for the next 20 years.
He returned to Maine to dig clams until he retired after a long battle with cancer. He enjoyed working on and fixing old cars. He also restored his boat.
He was predeceased by his parents; sons, Michael and Nicholas Winchenbach; and sister, Muriel Winchenbach.
He is survived by daughters, Joanne Winchenbach of New Bedford, Mass., Angela Winchenbach of Tennessee, Cheryl Winchenbach of Tennessee, and Jessica Winchenbach of Cushing; sons, Jason Dee of Waldoboro, Douglas Luce of Union, and Eric Cronk of Damariscotta; brothers, Eugene F. Winchenbach of Waldoboro, Allen R. Winchenbach of Waldoboro, Montgomery Winchenbach of Waldoboro, and Dale Winchenbach of Waldoboro; sisters, Linda Boyington of Warren, Charlene Boyington and husband Ralph of Waldoboro, Sandra Soule of Waldoboro, Patricia Isabel of Waldoboro, Darlene Grierson and husband Bob of Spruce Head, and Beatrice Quintal and husband Louie of Waldoboro; companion and caregiver for 25 years, Arlene Jones of Waldoboro; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5-7 p.m., Thurs., Oct. 12 at Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro.
