Richard A. Douglas died July 29 after a long illness at Estelles Hospice in Bellview, Fla. Richard was born April 8, 1935 in Whitefield to Bernice and Chester Douglas II.
Richard “Dick” served three years in the U.S. Army and was self-employed as an over the road truck driver. He had a colorful life filled with friends and family. In his retirement years, he was a vendor at Fruitland Park Flea Market and was loved by his fellow vendors. He spent many happy hours going to yard sales looking for the great deals. An avid stamp collector, he traveled far and wide for that “special” stamp.
He was predeceased by his parents; sister, Louise Dalton; and brothers, Chester Douglas III and William Douglas.
He is survived by son, Andrew Douglas of Wiscasset; daughter, Dixie Jacobs of Crawfordville, Fla.; grandchildren, Jay and Katie Jacobs of Crawfordville, Fla.; and sisters, Marjory Taylor of Ocala, Fla., Fondy York of Nobleboro and Mary Grady of Whitefield.
Funeral services were conducted July 31 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Ocala, Fla.
