Richard “Dick” Atwood, 75, of Palm Bay, Fla., formerly of Whitefield, beloved husband of Priscilla, devoted father to their two daughters, Ellie and Jennifer, passed away at Holmes Regional Medical Center in the early morning of June 12.
Born in Bath on Feb. 18, 1941, the youngest of seven children of John and Eola (Congdon) Atwood, he attended Morse High School and was a graduate of Park College receiving his degree in Applied Science.
Dick retired from the U.S. Air Force after 23 years of service in 1985, and the State of Maine in 2003.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, John and Eola Atwood; and brothers, Norman, Reginald, and Allan Atwood.
A loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, his family includes his loving wife of 51 years, Priscilla; daughters, Ellie McCobb and husband Buddy of Alexandria, Va., and Jennifer Starr of Palm Bay, Fla.; and grandchildren, Tyler, Nicholas, Kelly, Rachel, and Ethan; sister, Lydia Chase of Whitefield; brother, Maj. (USAF, Ret.) Ronald Atwood, also of Whitefield; sister, Patricia Brownell of Port Richey, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
Dick’s burial ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m., Mon., June 20 at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery.
