Richard Thomas Glaude Sr., 82, passed away peacefully on June 25 at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick. Richard was born on April 15, 1932 in Waldoboro, the son of the late Joseph and Sadie (Black) Glaude. Richard grew up in Waldoboro and attended local schools.
After leaving high school he joined the U.S. Army. After completing his time on active duty, he joined National Guard where he served for 20 years. He had a passion for fixing things and this passion made him a great mechanic. He worked for various garages and shops throughout the mid coast region before retiring from Yudy’s in Damariscotta after many years of service.
Richard always had a story for every occasion and enjoyed telling anyone who would lend an ear. He loved to tell jokes and hear people laugh. He was a hard worker and enjoyed the fruits of his labors. One of his favorite hobbies was doing word searches. He was a member of the Charles C. Lilly Post 149 American Legion in Waldoboro and was honored to place flags on the graves of his fallen brothers and sisters every year for Memorial Day.
He is predeceased by his wife, Mary Glaude; brother, Joseph Glaude Jr.; and sister, Jessie Sanborn.
Survivors include his children, Beverly Grant and husband Bruce of Warren, Donna Gould and husband John of Camden, Richard Glaude Jr. and wife Marcie of Union, and Michelle Glaude and fiancé Ray of Westbrook; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; special niece, Kate Waltz-Hixon of Waldoboro; as well as many other nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Richard’s life will be held from 2-5 p.m., Sun., July 13 at the American Legion in Waldoboro.
