Richard W. “Dick” Gordon, 88, of Walpole, died July 16 at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta. Dick was born Nov. 27, 1923 in York, Penn. to Arthur and Catharine Straley Gordon. Dick grew up in Media, Penn. and graduated from high school in Media.
He was a veteran of WWII serving in the Army-Air Force as a Technical Sergeant in Squadron B, 4126th AAFBU. His bomber crew was part of the Air Offensive Europe in Normandy, Northern France, Southern France, Rome-Arno, and the Balkans.
He married Jean Kellett Gordon in December 1947. He graduated from Drexel University in Philadelphia with a B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering.
He worked for General Electric briefly before joining Westinghouse Electric. He worked for Westinghouse for many years and retired as supervisor of the Steam Turbine Division in Lester, Penn. Dick enjoyed traveling and his life-long passion was bird watching. He also enjoyed fruit picking and would often distribute his pickings to his neighbors. He was a member of Church of the Redeemer in Springfield, Penn. He also was a member of the church vestry.
In 2007, Dick moved to Maine to live closer to his youngest daughter. He resided at Chase Point Assisted Living for four years, where he enjoyed participating in many activities, particularly Wii bowling.
Dick was predeceased by his loving wife, Jean Gordon.
He is survived by daughters, Linda Campbell and husband Daniel of St. Augustine, Fla., Nancy Gordon of Moriches, N.Y., Joan Bouchard and husband Robert of Walpole; and grandchildren, Kathleen Frangione of Washington, D.C., Victoria Campbell of Austin, Tex., Julia Smith of Branford, Conn., Lauren Curran of Middle Island, N.Y., Matthew Bouchard of Eastport, N.Y., and Laura Bouchard of So. Portland.
A service will be held at The Church of the Redeemer, Springfield, Penn. with a date and time to be announced.
