Richard Weymouth McDougall, Jr., 91, of Boothbay, passed away Feb. 9 at St. Andrews Hospital in Boothbay Harbor.
Born in Boothbay on May 22, 1915, he was the son of Richard and Gabriella Boyd McDougall.
Mr. McDougall was a graduate of Boothbay Harbor High School, class of 1932.
In 1940 he married Virginia Braley.
He was first employed at Sample’s Shipyard in the Mould Loft and retired after 42 years as yard superintendent.
Richard was a member of the Knights of Pythias for over 50 years; the School Committee for 13 years; Boothbay Planning Board for three years; and Treasurer of the Cemetery District for 12 years. He attended the Boothbay Region Community Fellowship.
Richard enjoyed all sports and played semi-pro baseball until he was 45 years old, with a batting average of over .300 his entire career. He then switched his allegiance to golf, an interest in which he eagerly taught his grandson. Richard won the President’s Cup at BRCC in both 1962 and 1964.
He was always an avid craftsman and master woodworker and continued to enjoy his workshop throughout his retirement years.
He was predeceased by a sister, Pauline Linnekin, and a brother, Elliot McDougall.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Braley McDougall of Boothbay; daughters, Rebecca Roberts and husband Alfred of Boothbay Harbor, and Kathryn Moore and husband Charles of Nashville, Tenn.; brother, Chandler McDougall and wife Joyce of Tampa, Fla.; sisters, Marjorie Alley of Southport, and Laura Arsenault and husband John of Boothbay Harbor; grandchildren, Michael Roberts and wife Caroline of Boothbay, and Meredith Fowlie and husband Justin of Houlton; and great-grandchildren, John Michael Roberts and Hannah Roberts of Boothbay, and Andrew Fowlie of Houlton.
Memorial service 11 a.m., Sat. Feb. 17 at Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home, 975 Wiscasset Rd., Boothbay, with Alfred Roberts officiating.
Reception will follow the service at the funeral home.
Burial will be in the spring at Oceanview Cemetery in Boothbay.
