Robert H. O’Brien, 72, of Waldoboro, passed away March 19 at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick.
He was born March 26, 1934 in Damariscotta, a son of the late Hance L. and Clara (Wylie) O’Brien.
Bob was a graduate of Lincoln Academy, class of 1952. On May 19, 1955, he married the former Sharon Day in Bennettville, S.C.
For more than 40 years Bob was the area barber, beginning in Damariscotta in 1956. In 1962, he began cutting hair in Waldoboro, where he retired from his Main Street shop in 2002.
Bob was a member of the American Legion post in Waldoboro, St. George Masonic Lodge No. 61 in Warren, a life member of the B.F.O.E. No. 1008 Elks in Rockland, former member of the Rifle Association of America, and a former member of the Waldoboro Lions Club.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, horseracing, and was an avid lifelong Red Sox and Patriots fan. Bob’s favorite place was in the barbershop taking care of his loyal customers. He will be remembered by all who knew him, as a devoted husband, caring father, and a loving grandfather.
In addition to his wife of more than 51 years, Sharon (Day) O’Brien of Waldoboro, Bob is survived by two daughters, Gena O’Brien of Santa Clara, Cal., and Erin Harrison and husband Michael of San Diego, Cal.; two sons, Steven O’Brien and wife Kathy of Rockport, and Michael O’Brien of Arkansas; six grandchildren, Nichole, Derek, Dustin, Shane, Seth and Ashley; two sisters, Janice Sprague of Nobleboro, and Phyllis Charette and husband Arthur of Beverly, Mass.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family to celebrate Bob’s life at 1 p.m., Sun., March 25 at the Rockland Elks Club.
