Robert W. Seaman of Southport departed this life on Sept. 4, 2014. Bob was raised in Rockaway, N.J. and lived the majority of his adult life in and around Morris Plains, N.J. He was a graduate of Stevens Institute and served his country during WWII as a naval engineering officer on ships in the Pacific Ocean. During his career Bob served as Project Engineer for X-1 Engine, and as chief engineer for the design and development for the X-15 Space Plane rocket engine. He was an avid sailor and enjoyed model trains.
Following his retirement in 1988, Bob and Lois moved to Southport where for the previous twenty years they had spent their vacations. He was an active member of the Southport United Methodist Church.
Bob was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He is preceded in death by Lois, his wife of 59 years.
He is survived by his wife of eight years, Ruth Davenport Seaman; sons, Terry and wife Heidi of Maple Valley, Wash., and Glenn and wife Barbara of Parsippany, N.J.; stepson, Jerry Davenport and wife Susan of Dover, N.J.; granddaughter, Sally de Araujo and husband Luke of Lake Hiawatha, N.J.; grandsons, Andrew and wife Renee of Green Township, N.J., and Daniel of Parsippany, N.J.; step grandson, Matthew Davenport and wife Karen of Dover, N.J.; great grandsons, Manny and Eli de Araujo of Lake Hiawatha, N.J.; and great granddaughter, Maya Seaman of Green Township, N.J.
A memorial service will be held at the Southport United Methodist Church at 11 a.m., Sat., May 30 with a luncheon reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Southport United Methodist Church.
