Robert Wallace Gleason, 73, of Dresden, passed away June 19 at the Bodwell House, Brunswick.
Bob was born Sept. 9, 1940 at Long Branch, N.J., a son of Wallace and Elizabeth Drummond Gleason. He graduated from Asbury Park High School, New Jersey in 1958 and from the University of Maine, majoring in agriculture. He was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity.
Robert proudly served his country in the Far East with the U.S. Marine Corps from 1962 to 1966.
In 1966 Bob purchased land in Dresden and raised fruits and vegetables. He and his wife Doris owned Green Point Farms until 1999. Once retired, the farmland went to the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife to be used as a game management area.
Bob was past president of the Maine Vegetable Growers Association and the Maine Maple Producers Association. He was also a past Dresden selectman and town moderator for eight years.
Bob was a member of the American Legion Post 132 in Richmond and Bath Elks Lodge #934.
He is survived by brother, Richard D. Gleason of Auburn; and nieces, Karen Graham of Ashburn, Va., Jill Sergeant of Andover, Mass., and Ann Teas of Medford, Mass.
Per Bob’s request, there will be no visiting hours. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Mon., July 7 at the Maple Grove Cemetery, Indian Road, Dresden.
Arrangements are under the care of Kincer Funeral Home, Richmond.
