Rodney T. Cooke, 86, passed away Sept. 5 at Cove’s Edge in Damariscotta. He was born on Oct. 28, 1923 in Brattleboro, Vt., the son of Ralph Cooke and Charlotte Emma Taylor.
In September of 1943 Rodney married Frances Woodlock. They were married 62 years. Rodney enlisted in the Air Force and became a crew member on a B-25 Bomber in the highly decorated 487 Bomb Group. His military service to his country was a great source of pride for Rod. After WWII, Rod returned to civilian life, working for AT&T until retirement.
A devout Catholic, Rodney belonged to the St. Patrick’s Parish family in Newcastle. He enjoyed socializing with friends over dinners and always looked forward to good company. He took great joy in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who affectionately referred to him as Pop-Pops. At an age when most might be receiving “Meals On Wheels,” Rod drove for the program, delivering food well into his 80s. He volunteered in any capacity whenever possible.
He is predeceased by his beloved wife Frances and son Rodney J. Cooke.
He is survived by daughter, Nancy Cotter and husband Allan of St. Croix, U.S.V.I.; grandchildren, Brooke Cotter and husband Gabe Shadis and Courtney Cotter, both of Damariscotta, and Jesse Cotter of Park City, Utah; and great-grandchildren, Aidan, Emory, and Willow Shadis, and Kenyan Cotter.
Service for Rodney 10 a.m., Sat., Oct. 9 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Newcastle.
