Ronald E. Hodnett, 65, passed away April 15 at Maine General Medical Center – Thayer Unit in Waterville, where he had been a patient for the past two weeks, following a long illness.
He was born in Fillmore, N.Y. on June 25, 1941, the son of John and Glendora (Ackerman) Hodnett. Ronald was educated in the school of Fillmore, N.Y. and married Barbara (Foss) DeRaps in 1988 in Winslow.
As a young man he worked for Armco Co. in New York for over 10 years placing pipeline in ground. Ronald moved to Maine in the 1960’s and worked over 30 years for Joseph Kirshner Co., until retiring in 2001 due to ill health.
Being a member of the Brown Memorial United Methodist Church and their men’s group, Ronald organized and managed the community food pantry with Malcolm Trott, from the Clinton Community Food Bank from the church. He also was a chauffeur for the Red Hats Society and “Kids In Mission.”
He enjoyed dancing, fishing, and being with his grandchildren and kids within the church.
Ronald survived by his wife, Barbara Hodnett of Clinton; son, Michael Hodnett and wife Kathy of Jefferson; stepdaughters, Michelle Reuch of Hawaii, and Janelle Richards and husband Darren of New Gloucester; stepsons, Gerard DeRaps and wife Gwen of Hartland, and Peter DeRaps and wife Robin of Oakland; sister, Sherry Smith and husband Matt of Somerville, S.C.; 10 grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial service 1 p.m., Sun., April 22 at the Brown Memorial United Methodist Church of Clinton.
