Ronald L. Yattaw, 57, of Friendship, died at his home on Jan. 28 after a brief illness. Ron was born in Rockland on Sept. 22, 1954, and was the eldest of two sons of Llewellyn Yattaw Jr. and the late Constance Mink-Yattaw of Friendship. He was a 1972 graduate of Medomak Valley High School where he was recognized for his high academic achievements. In addition, Ron participated in several sports including basketball, track, and baseball, where his baseball team won the state championship in 1970.
Shortly after high school, he volunteered his time to the Waldoboro Little League. For the past 30 years Ron owned and operated his own plumbing and heating business serving Friendship and surrounding areas. Ron was a devoted and skilled master plumber who was always there for his customers in need. His passion in later years was to the Maine Harness Horseman’s Association (MHHA) where he owned and raced several successful horses. Recently, he was honored at an award ceremony from the MHHA for achieving 10 first place finishes during the 2011 season. Ron was a “local character” who was never afraid to speak his mind.
Ronnie is survived by his sons, Eric and wife Heather of Portland, and Matthew and long time girlfriend Brittney Hawthorne of Rockland; brother, Keith Yattaw and wife Michelle of Orlando, Fla.; father, Llewellyn Yattaw Jr. and wife Cynthia of Friendship; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Service 3 p.m., Thurs., Feb. 2 at the Friendship United Methodist Church. A reception will immediately follow at the Hahn Community Center.
