Roy A. Benner Jr., 39, of Damariscotta, unexpectedly passed away on May 4. Born on June 26, 1976 in Nuremberg, Germany, he was the husband of Deborah L. Benner, father of James A. Benner, and son of Roy and Laura Benner Sr.
Roy grew up in Germany, Texas, Maine, and Kansas. He graduated in May of 1994 from Manhattan High School and vocational school.
Upon moving back to Maine, he met his wife Debbie on June 24, 1996, and they married on July 10, 1999. They were blessed to give birth to their son James, on June 27, 2001.
Roy worked as a mechanic in various locations, and on the side for anyone in need. Most recently, he worked for Hammond Lumber. Roy enjoyed several different trades, but found his heart at the end of the mechanics wrench. Most of all he loved to spend time with his family.
Roy was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, George Hutchings Sr.; paternal grandparents, Austin and Frances Benner Jr.; and cousins, Andrew (Andy) Bryant, and Tricia Bryant Woodbury.
In addition to his wife, Debbie; son, James; and parents, Roy Sr. and Laura; Roy is survived by his grandmother, Frances Hutchings; sister, Naomi Jewett-Johnson and partner Greg, their children Kylee, Hannah, Brandon and girlfriend Jalyssa; father and mother-in-law, James and Darlene Gilligan Jr.; sister-in-law, Amanda Barter husband John, their son Bryan; special friend to Roy’s son James, Nicole; and Roy’s very best friend, John (Rex) Prior.
A gathering to celebrate his life will be held from 6-8 p.m., Tues., May 10 at the Wells-Hussey American Legion Post #42 in Damariscotta.
In lieu of flowers, donation in his memory may be made to any Camden National Bank to benefit his son’s college education.
