Ruth Farrin Bullock, 91, passed away unexpectedly on Aug. 26 near her home in Bulverde, Tex.
Ruth was born on Nov. 20, 1924, in South Bristol. Ruth attended South Bristol School, Lincoln Academy, and graduated from Kent’s Hill Junior College, where she played basketball and field hockey. After marrying at the Union Church in 1946, Ruth and Bob lived briefly in South Bristol before moving to Connecticut where they lived for 23 years. Ruth worked as a secretary for Time-Life Inc., and E.E. Dickinson Witch Hazel Company while bringing up their two girls in Essex, Conn.
She always loved the outdoors, and loved building snow figures in the back yard. Ruth loved growing up in the large Farrin family of 12 children. She returned often summers with her family throughout her entire life. Ruth and Bob moved to Florida in 1972. She continued to live there for 28 years working as a school secretary.
In 1998, Ruth returned to Maine living half a year in Pemaquid, and half in Florida. In 2004, she moved to join her daughter Barbara and family in a home she built on their property in Texas. She continued visiting family in Maine for a few weeks each summer and remained a lifetime member of Eastern Star. Ruth was a very active happy person her entire life. As a child she especially loved rowing with cousins and friends around “The Gut” and out to “Witch Island.”
Many hours were spend under the horse chestnut tree with them also, running down the hill to her dad’s store, “Farrin’s Lobster Pound,” and later chugging up and down that same hill learning to drive her dad’s truck.
In Florida Ruth was very active playing tennis into her late 70s. After moving to Texas, she spent many hours walking her dog, gardening, and bird watching. She was a member of the Senior Center where she went often for exercises and a knitting group. A lovely memorial service was held for her there on Sept. 22.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; parents, Annie May and Afton Farrin; and nine siblings.
Ruth is survived by daughters, Sharon Glynn and husband Bob of Mineral, Va., and Barbara Masterson and husband Bill of Bulverde, Tex.; grandchildren, Lee Masterson of Spring Branch, Tex., Keith Masterson and wife Denise of San Antonio, Tex., Dana Theriot-Brown and husband Chris of Leesburg, Va., and Dan Glynn and wife Jennifer of Manassas, Va.; great-grandchildren, Aidan and Travis Glynn of Leesburg, Va.; and longtime friend, Arnie Stoiber of Largo, Fla.
