Ruth G. Burnham, 70, of Newcastle, passed away on the morning of Sept. 6 at Cove’s Edge, following a prolonged illness.
The daughter of Alfred and Marion (Wall) Gamage, she was born April 13, 1937 in South Bristol. She attended school in South Bristol and graduated from Lincoln Academy, class of 1955.
On Oct. 28, 1956, she married Frederick A. Burnham, and together they raised their family in Newcastle.
For most of her adult life, Ruth worked out of her home as a seamstress and was known throughout the region for creating hundreds of beautiful wedding gowns and formal dresses.
For many years Ruth attended the Damariscotta United Methodist Church and was regarded as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She leaves her loving husband of 50 years of Newcastle; sons, Frederick A. “Rick” Burnham, Jr. and wife Teresa, Larry Burnham and wife Melissa, all of Damariscotta, and Tom Burnham and companion Mona Buffum of Walpole; brother, Philip Gamage and wife Peggy of Brooksville, Fla.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Service to honor her 11 a.m., Wed., Sept. 12 at the Highland Cemetery in Damariscotta Mills, where she will be laid to rest after the service.
