Sherrill Westfall, 80, of Wiscasset, died peacefully in her sleep Oct. 18 at her residence from complications of two strokes which she suffered three years ago.
She was born in Bath on Flag Day, June 14, 1935, the daughter of Stanley E. and Frances E. (Perkins) Somes. Her father died in 1937 and she was raised by her mother and grandmother, Kate Perkins. She attended Wiscasset schools and was one of 13 in the class of 1953. She looked forward to attending the annual alumni banquets at Wiscasset. In May of 1977 she married Bill Westfall. They were the first couple married at the Bounty Tavern at the Sheraton Hotel in Bath. Bill was a career Navy man who passed away Oct. 19, 2003.
She was proud of the fact that her family on her maternal side have been in Wiscasset since 1735.
Sherrill was a former member of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in Wiscasset. She was a member of the Wiscasset Senior Center and looked forward to their suppers and playing cribbage.
She loved all animals, bird watching, cribbage, scrabble and coffee.
In addition to her husband and father, she was predeceased by her mother in 1964, and grandmother in 1981.
She is survived by sons, James Christiansen of Saco, Steve Christiansen of Wiscasset, who lovingly took care of her throughout her illness, and Eric Christiansen of Dresden; granddaughters, Andrea Leighton of Nobleboro and Leah Altenburg of Lake Mills, Wis.; and lifelong best friend, Carolyn Soule of Wiscasset.
Burial will be in the spring of 2016 at a date to be determined by the family at Old Greenlawn Cemetery, Wiscasset.
