Thomas Robert Kirkham, 62, of Union, passed away on May 27 at the Sussman Hospice House in Rockport surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Newton, Mass. on Feb. 10, 1953 and was the son of Thomas Archibald and Lois (Jordan) Kirkham. A graduate of Lexington High School in 1971, he began his career in the field of medical imaging, and later obtained his B.A. in business administration at Northeastern University. In 1983, he married Marion “Sunny” Kirkham in Lexington.
Tom had a keen love of travel and adventure. Tom loved flying and in the 1970s, he earned his pilot’s license. He traveled Europe extensively for business and enjoyed visiting Scotland whenever possible. In 2013, Tom and Sunny celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary in Scotland. Tom loved his Celtic dogs. He and Sunny raised Scottish Terriers for over 20 years, showing dogs in the AKC competition for conformation.
Tom was a well-known bag piper, and was a former member of the Atlanta Pipe Band of Atlanta, Ga. and the Stewart Highland Pipe Band of Massachusetts. He performed in community theater both in Georgia and mid-coast Maine.
Tom’s walk of faith was an important part of his life. He facilitated a men’s morning Bible study at the Waldoboro Baptist Church for many years, and posted on several Apologetic blogs.
Surviving is his beloved wife, Sunny; children, Iain Kirkham and wife, Jessica, and Brittany Kirkham, all of Union; grandchildren, Faith, Riley, Fallyn and Steven; mother, Lois Kirkham of Lexington, Mass.; sister, Patty McCabe and husband,Chuck of Pembroke, Mass.; nephew, Dan McCabe and wife Aleisha of Wash.; and niece, Kim McCabe of Mass.
