Venson “Vinny” Edgar Simmons, born on Oct. 13, 1957 to George and Cynthia Simmons. Venson passed away on June 10 at the Sussman House in Rockland after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.
Vinny grew up in Cushing and was educated locally. He was state champion of his freshman year in gymnastics. He graduated from Georges Valley High School. After school Vinny went on scalloping out of New Bedford, he was a jack of all trades. He was the sternman for many local fishermen, clam digger, carpenter, and whatever else he could find. He had an adventurous life. He enjoyed all his good times with his many, many buddies. He loved to go hunting and fishing. Music was another love of his. You could always find Vinny doing a little yodel, and playing the guitar. He loved to have visits with family, and he loved his family very much. He was also a member of the Knights of Pythias.
Vinny is preceded in death by his children, Arnold in March of 2005 and Heather in May 2005; infant granddaughter, Shanda M. Page; grandparents, George Sr. and Margurite Simmons and Raymond and Sylvia Ames; as well as nephew, Anthony Simmons.
He is survived by his parents, George and Cynthia Simmons of Cushing; son, Shawn Simmons of Rockland; granddaughters, Teagan and Hannah Simmons and Julia Page; grandsons, Jesse Page and Cayden Simmons; brother, Doyle Simmons and wife Lisa of Rockland; sister, Valerie Blazek and husband Michael of Cushing; special friend, Aimee Faulkingham and son Gage; beloved dog, Savage; many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles; as well as too many friends to name.
The family wishes to extend sincere appreciation to the Sussman House staff for their amazing compassion and kindness during this rough time.
