Vernal C. Wallace, 91, of Clermont, Fla., passed away peacefully at Cornerstone Hospice in Sumterville, Fla. on March 7. A resident of Thomaston, Warren and Waldoboro for most of his life, he was residing in Clermont, Fla. for the last year and a half.
Born on Aug. 3, 1923 in Warren, he was the son of Chester R. and Elsie Wallace. He spent his early youth living on the farm and helping his dad. He joined the Navy on June 14, 1944. During his duty he was stationed on the USS Norton in the Pacific. He was very proud of his service to his country. After returning to civilian life in May of 1946, he joined his father in the family business, where he worked for many years. Later in life he worked at Bath Iron Works as the maintenance supervisor for the crane operation unit. He was a long time member of the So. Thomaston Lions Club.
He is predeceased by his parents; sister, Marion; first wife, Gloria; second wife, Julia (Dolly); and son, Russell, in June 2002.
He is survived by his daughters and their spouses, Nancy and Bill Winchenbach of Edgewater, Fla., and Kay and Steve Pelletier of Brandon, Vt.; significant other, Maude Davis of Clermont, Fla.; granddaughters, Kristina and spouse Kyle Leiberman of Brookline, N.H., and Stacy Pelletier of Braintree, Vt.; great-grandsons, Owen and Finn Leiberman of Brookline, N.H.; and stepchildren, Sylvia Lee of Waldoboro, and Joyce and spouse Ed Morrill of Jamaica Estates, N.Y. and their children.
A celebration of life and graveside services will be held at a later date and time.
