Virginia M. Higgins, 91, of Lisbon, passed away at the Freeport Nursing and Rehabilitation facility on Sept. 5 where she was a patient for a short time.
She was born in Columbus, Ohio, on Feb. 17, 1923, the daughter of the late Robert and Anna (Burgess) Sigman. Virginia attended schools in Columbus.
She and her husband Owen Patrick (Pat) moved to Maine in the summer of 1952. He was stationed at Brunswick Naval Air Station.
Her interests included reading, jigsaw puzzles, Red Sox baseball, and traveling. She was ready for any trip at any time. She was a regular attendee of the Lisbon United Methodist Church. In recent years, she particularly enjoyed attending the Widow’s Group and Afternoon Circle of the Lisbon United Methodist Church. Her sense of humor will be missed.
Virginia was predeceased by her loving husband Owen (Pat) on Feb. 12, 1979; brother, Charles; sister-in-law, Dorothy and husband Marion Gray; sister-in-law, Nota Higgins; nephews, Robert Sigman, and Richard and Robert Gray; nieces, Carolyn Piper, and Joyce Sigman; and great-nephew, Terry Gray.
She is survived by son, John Higgins and wife Dolores of Waldoboro; daughter, Patricia H. Cavender and husband Clyde of Lisbon Falls; grandchildren, Brian Higgins and wife Tracey of Wyoming, Shawn Higgins and wife Holly of Damariscotta, Jonica Palmer of Bristol, James Goss and wife Lisa of Lisbon, Kimberly Dill and husband Mark of South Carolina, Kelley Cavender of Florida, Stephanie Carey and Jim of Stetson, and Robert Anthony and wife Maryanne of Yarmouth; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; niece, Norma of London, Ohio; nephew, Charles Sigman of Florida; great-nephews, Richard and Robert Gray and their families of Ohio; and beloved friend, confidant and travel buddy, Virginia Tardiff of West Bowdoin.
A celebration of her life will be held at 12:30 p.m., Tues., Sept. 9 at the Lisbon United Methodist Church in Lisbon Falls. Interment will be at New Harbor Cemetery in Bristol.
