Virginia R. Lawrence, 89, passed away Dec. 15 at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta, following a long illness.
She was born Oct. 21, 1917, in Minneapolis, Minn., the middle daughter of Geno and Emma (Jezewski) Rossi. Virginia was proud of her Italian Polish heritage.
She attended Minneapolis schools, and danced professionally as a young woman.
In 1947, she married William “Jack” Lawrence Jr. and together they lived in Boston, Mass. Following the birth of their daughter, they moved to Old Orchard Beach.
Virginia was a devoted mother and creative homemaker. She enjoyed her grandsons, crossword puzzles, music, yard sales, collecting dolls and children’s picture books, sewing, drawing, and writing prose and poetry.
Following Jack’s death in 1987, she moved to Waldoboro where she attended the First Baptist Church, and was the volunteer librarian for Coastal Christian School.
Virginia had recently been a resident of Cove’s Edge in Damariscotta, where she was lovingly cared for.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; and two sisters, Gladys Bolstad and Gloria Newman.
She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Laura and husband Jeffrey McNelly of Waldoboro; stepdaughter, Lorelei Kerr and husband Gary of Schererville, Ind.; grandsons, Lucas McNelly of Pittsburgh, Penn., and Ryan McNelly and fiancée Jasmine Olson of Waldoboro; nieces and nephews; and step-grandchildren.
Gathering of friends and family 6-8 p.m., Wed., Dec. 20 at Hall Funeral Home in Waldoboro.
Celebration of life 7:15 p.m., Wed., Dec. 20 with Jeffrey Norton officiating.
Interment will be at Gethsemane Cemetery in New Hope, Minn.
