Walter H. Cowan, 75, of Hadley, Mass., passed away April 2 in Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton, Mass. He was born March 9, 1931 in Damariscotta to George and Agnes (Sproul) Cowan. He attended local schools graduating from Lincoln Academy in 1948. He moved to Westfield, Mass., where he owned and operated Eaton’s Men’s Store until retirement. Walter was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Theodore, George Jr., and Hubert; and sisters, Carrie Martin, and Althea Pendleton. Survivors are sisters, Leah Morrow of Westfield, Mass., and Lydia VanVarick of Maitland, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. Walter donated his remains to the University of Massachusetts Anatomical Society in Worcester, Mass. Committal will be at Hillside Cemetery in Damariscotta at a later date.
