William Randall Bennett, Jr., 74, died April 23 at St. Andrews Hospital in Boothbay Harbor. He was born July 20, 1934 in Edgecomb, a son of William Bennett and Frances Reed Bennett. He grew up in Edgecomb and attended Edgecomb Grammar School and Wiscasset High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a jet aircraft engine mechanic.
He worked for Pratt & Whitney in Windsor, Conn. as an aircraft mechanic for many years until he retired in 1992. He moved back to Edgecomb. He was a member of the Wiscasset Lions Club and the Edgecomb Fire Department. He loved everything about airplanes.
He is survived by a son, Derrick Bennett of Houston, Tex.; sisters, Judy Lavway and husband Paul of Carmel, and Patricia Longley and husband Eric of Brunswick; mother, Frances Bennett of Topsham; special nephew who took care of him, Rodney Cost and wife Lisa of Edgecomb; dear friend, Ted Smith of Edgecomb; and nieces and nephews.
Graveside service 2 p.m., Fri., May 8 at the Dodge Cemetery in Edgecomb. Rev Tom Clough will officiate.
